Costa Brava

Catalonia

Like their neighbors the Basques, the Catalans constantly struggle to escape the grip of the central power of Madrid. Catalonia (Catalunya in Catalan, Cataluña in Spanish) also has its own language and culture, maintained with determination by a nationalist feeling. Recalling its time as a great maritime power in the Mediterranean, Catalonia is rightly proud of its historical and artistic heritage, and of Barcelona, its dynamic capital city which surpasses Madrid in some respects.

Located in a small triangle between the Pyrenees and the sea, the region has an impressive amount of churches and monasteries, Roman monuments, museums and medieval towns.

Besides Barcelona, the cities of Tarragona, Girona, Montserrat and Empurias are of great interest.

Sant Antoni de Calonge

Sant Antoni de Calongeis a resort balnéaire

modern, located on the Costa Brava, in the Catalan province of Girona.
The resort belongs to the old picturesque village of Calonge, which is on a hill about 4 kilometers from the coast, inside the lands.

Sant Antoni was a small fishing village that was annexed to Calonge, located a few kilometers inland. In 1939, its inhabitants, known as 'meganyeus', still maintain a strong and independent character, despite the great transformation that the region has experienced in recent years thanks to tourism. In this sense we still preserve the beautiful church of Santa Maria del Collet, near the beach, where, moreover, next to the church, there are the ruins of an ancient Roman villa which, we hope, will soon be possible to visit for all.
In recent years, Sant Antoni de Calonge has become a popular holiday destination, offering de beautiful beaches, a friendly atmosphere and cultural attractions and_cc781905-5cde-3194- bb3b-136bad5cf58d_tourists.
